'Child-Safe Travel-Safe'

Advice for Voluntary Sector (New 2007 price £4.49)

ISBN 1 903213 00 7

The Travel-Safe Advice for Voluntary Organisations focuses on exchange trips through voluntary organisations such as cubs, scouts and sports and voluntary clubs, Rotary youth exchanges. The book provides information about the practices and procedures that should be in place before any cultural, educational or language trip takes place. It covers issues to be considered prior to the trip; how to prepare young people for their adventure; what information is needed by the parents; the organisation's duty of care for the safety and welfare of the young people, as well as information on how to select host families and ensure that they are suitable for placement of foreign visitors. Most of the advice in the book relates to homestays, where young people stay with a host family in their home, rather than in a hotel, hostel or campsite. However the practical guidelines for safeguarding young people areapplicable to all trips.
