Emeritus Professor Freda Briggs visits Child-Safe

Members of the Child-Safe Charity recently welcomed a visitor from Australia who has helped to take the charity message to the other side of the world. Freda Briggs, Emeritus Professor of Child Development at the University of South Australia, visited Police Headquarters for a meal with members of the team and Child-Safe Chairman Chris Gould.

Former Avon and Somerset Chief Superintendent Chris Gould set up the charity, which is based at Police Headquarters, in 2004. Over the past five years he has visited dozens of other countries to raise awareness of the importance of having systems in place to safeguard youngsters who travel abroad. He met Freda Briggs in New Zealand in 1998 when he presented at a Conference on child protection and she became an Ambassador for the Charity.

Chris presented Freda with a piece of Bristol Blue Glass to thank her for her work and ACC Rod Hansen presented her with the Avon and Somerset Constabulary Force Shield. Freda said: “Chris and I have been in touch for a long time and I am so grateful for the support and knowledge we have been able to share. It has been a pleasure to visit Avon and Somerset Police and meet the Child-Safe team.”
