Child-Safe Sponsored Cycle Ride - Lands End to John O'Groats - Sunday 20 May 2007
We arrived at Land's End where the cyclists changed into their cycling kit and made hot foot to the start line for photos. Some family members and friends turned up to support the riders with banners and shouts of good luck as they set off at 1.30 pm. The weather was kind to us throughout the afternoon with sunshine and mild winds. The team naturally split into two groups with Mark, Nigel, Andrew and Peter sprinting off and averaging just over 18.5 mph for the day. Dick, Julian, Murray, Richard, Duncan, Rupert and Steve kept a respectable pace throughout the day, mostly cycling together until Dick was lost making his way onto the A30 bypass alone! Dick then ended up cycling alone between the two groups for the last 18 miles or so. The group arrived tired but in good shape and morale between 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm that afternoon at the Bodmin Travel Lodge. Fed, watered, bathed and showered they all had a good and much needed sleep. Child-Safe would also like to thank the event sponsors (below) who have all generously contributed to help make this fundraising cycle ride happen. Everyone's help has been most appreciated. Finally, please consider sponsoring a cyclist. You can do this now or during the event. Please look at the Justgiving website. All donations will be gratefully received. |
