Statement of Support from the Home Office

A photograph of the Rt Hon Alan Johnson

It is the first duty of government and of society to do all we can to keep our children safe. That is why the safety of children features as one of the key priorities in the "Every Child Matters" programme, reinforcing the Government's determination to do everything possible to make the arrangements in this country for protecting children the best in the world.

The Government also recognises that for children and young people to develop their full potential they should be given every opportunity to take part in activities that enable them to nurture their talents and learn from their experiences. Providing children with a safe environment for them to do this is essential to their welfare and Child Safe plays an active part in helping others to do this.

This website provides useful information and practical advice to anyone involved with planning and supervising children and young people's activities. Child Safe encourages children and young people to engage in a variety of activities whilst at the same time promoting their welfare, safety and pastoral care. I also welcome their promotion of the Government's Vetting and Barring Scheme which will play a vital role in helping to keep children safe. Child Safe is a worthy website for anyone wishing to know more about how best to keep children and young people safe and that is why I am pleased to offer my support to this website.
